RE: TO CHIP OR NOT TO CHIP

FWIW I know there is at least one guy whole sells an engine computer that has two programs. Like one for tow and one for sport. He does only Duramax stuff as far as I know. I you have a warranty issue then you just reinstall the stock engine computer. http://www.kennedydiesel.com/

RE: Actual federal weight law rules, some questions and answers

With out Hijacking the thread, how do the manufacturers decide what the GVWR is for a vehicle?

RE: Lookie what DH got me for my birthday!!

I should change my userID to lucky.girlie... We have different, darker upholstery. We bought it locally and pick it up on Saturday.Eeeeeek! Sad to say goodbye to our first unit, an Antigua 305QBS. I do love the white cabinetry, but excited about having more room for all the kiddoes, their friends and our pups. I'm also psyched about never again bumping my head on the tv shelf. Woot woot. We have a Tacoma, that should be enough to pull it, right? ;) Nice outfit! Near as I can tell it would take about two Tacoms's to pull it. Maybe he bought you a trailer and himself a tow vehicle.

RE: Dehumidifier in camper while it sits?

Yep, bought a dehumidifier for the trailer, stops the musty smell and no mildew either. Uless you live in a dry climate I'd have one.

RE: 5th wheel payments

I plan to spend about 500/month when I find one to buy. Paying cash and being smug about it has no advantage. I am comfortable with the things money can buy and wealthy beyond belief in the things it can't buy. I am certain Dave and I will have the same amount of money beyond the grave.

RE: Generator buying advice

Honda. Quiet, reliable and powerful. Spendy, but you won't regret it. You can get them with auto start, too. i have a liquid cooled 2 cylinder that I also use for back up power 6500kw.

RE: GVW Question

So, does anyone know how GVWR is determined? Lots of opinion here but no DOT regs or Manufacturers documents.

Marathon trailer Tire

Based on industry standards, if tires with the ST designation are used at speeds between 66 and 75 mph, it is necessary to increase the cold inflation pressures by 10 psi above the recommended pressure for the load. o Do not exceed the maximum pressure for the wheel. o If the maximum pressure for the wheel prohibits the increase of air pressure, then the maximum speed must be restricted to 65 mph. o The cold inflation pressure must not exceed 10 psi beyond the inflation specified for the maximum load of the tire. This is an excerpt from here Anyone have any experience with this?

RE: newbie question - what type of bedliner?

I have a line-x and very happy. I've heard good things about Rhino, too. The installer will make or break either one. I had a liner, once, and won't go back. -JetAonly

RE: GVW Question

I suspect your meaning the GVWR not GVW. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum amount the vehicle is allowed to weigh. Gross Vehicle Weight is what it ACTUALLY weighs. The reason it is not the sum of the two is because you can't control precisely WHERE the weight would be carried so they allow some flexibility in loading the truck. If it were the sum of the axle ratings you would need to transfer pounds from the front to the rear or visa versa to get the full GVWR from the truck. That would not only be a pain, it would in most cases be impossible. Yep, I meant GVWR. This aging process is not kind. I see what you're saying about Center of Gravity. How is the GVWR arrived at?

GVW Question

GVW is 9200. Silverado C/C SB 4x4 D/A 2500HD. GCVW 22000 Weight Calculator (lb.) Front Rear Total Base 3,419.0 2,564.0 5,983.0 Options 712.6 159.7 872.3 Total 4,131.6 2,723.7 6,855.3 GVWR 4,800.0 6,084.0 9,200.0 Total Payload 668.4 3,360.3 2,344.7 So why isn't the GVW the sum of the front and rear capacities 4800+6084=10884? The axle weights speak to the carrying capacities of the design, the combined number is a measure of the brakes and drive line. The GVW then must factor in things like steering geometry, stability, headlight aim and ride height, perhaps? Any thoughts? It seems like the GVW is a number that is more related to a regulatory standard. -JetAonly
